Shrimp deviled eggs are a must on the lunch table when we have Easter lunch. It’s easy to make, and it just tastes good! It’s a dish that both children and adults love to eat, and together with other Easter lunch delicacies, it’s simply delicious. Read on and get our easy recipe for deviled eggs with shrimp.

A classic for Easter lunch

Shrimp deviled eggs are a classic on the Easter lunch table.

It’s easy to make, and both children and adults love the halved eggs with filling. Eggs and shrimp are a really good combination, and with a good mayonnaise and a little chives, it becomes even better.

The eggs can be part of a larger Easter lunch with many smaller cold or warm dishes like liver pate, herring, fish fillets, and all these classic Danish dishes.

But they can also easily work as a small lunch on their own with a piece of good rye bread.

There are things that are always on the table at home when we talk about Easter food. Among them are shrimp deviled eggs, but we also really enjoy eating pickled eggs during Easter, or actually throughout the year. If you’re not familiar with pickled eggs, called Solæg, you should try them, they simply taste so good, and it’s easy to make. It’s a specialty from Sønderjylland (Southern Jutland), and we like to eat it during Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions.

Lamb is also something we like to eat during Easter. It’s usually slow-roasted lamb shoulder, slow-roasted leg of lamb, or lamb chops in the oven with potatoes, lemon, and of course, lots of garlic. We really like lamb and eat it often, both during Easter and the rest of the year. But lamb naturally belongs to Easter.

Just like eggs and shrimp belong to Easter!

Ingredient notes

Eggs – You obviously need eggs for this dish.

Shrimp – The shrimp is not a must, but it really elevates the eggs to completely new and delicious heights.

Mayonnaise – Preferably homemade mayonnaise or a good store-bought version.

Chives – Chives on top are the perfect finishing touch. If you don’t have chives, you can use watercress or dill instead.

How to make shrimp deviled eggs?

Fortunately, it’s not difficult to make delicious shrimp deviled eggs.

First, the eggs need to be boiled until hard-boiled. It takes about 10 minutes if they’re of average size.

Once the eggs are boiled and cooled, they are halved lengthwise, and the yolks are removed. The egg yolks are mixed with mayonnaise, finely chopped chives, salt, and pepper, and then filled back into the egg halves.

Garnish the eggs with shrimp and chives on top, and they’re ready to be served.

Can I make the eggs in advance?

Yes, you can easily make the eggs a few hours ahead and keep them in the refrigerator until serving. You can also boil the eggs the day before if you want to be ahead of time.

Can I use something other than shrimp?

You can use the fish or seafood you prefer. Also, try using crayfish tails or a little cold-smoked salmon. You can also use crispy bacon cubes if you have guests who don’t eat seafood.

Can I use something other than chives?

If you don’t have chives to put on top, you can also use watercress or dill for garnish, with equally good results.

Tips and tricks for the recipe

  • If you want a lighter cream in your eggs, try replacing half of the mayonnaise with sour cream.
  • If you want a bit more kick in the eggs, add a teaspoon of mustard along with the egg yolks and sprinkle them with paprika on top.
  • Try stirring chopped herbs into the cream, such as chopped wild garlic, watercress, chives, or dill.

Recipe for filled eggs with shrimp

Here is our suggestion for delicious halved eggs filled with egg cream and topped with shrimp. You can easily experiment with other flavors when making your eggs, for example, try substituting chives with watercress or wild garlic.

You can also choose to add a little extra flavor in the form of spices to the cream. It can be a little curry or paprika or a teaspoon of mustard. If you find the cream too heavy with mayonnaise, you can make it with half mayonnaise and half sour cream. However, we prefer it with mayo.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 eggs
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp chives finely chopped
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 150 g shrimp

Garnish

  • 1 tbsp chives finely chopped
  • 1 lemon

Instructions
 

  • Boil the eggs in water for 10 minutes.
    6 eggs
  • Cool them under cold running water, then peel the eggs.
  • Halve the eggs and scoop out the yolks into a bowl.
  • Mix the yolks with mayonnaise and finely chopped chives, and season the filling with salt and pepper.
    4 tbsp mayonnaise, 2 tbsp chives, Salt, Pepper
  • Fill the egg halves with the filling, using a teaspoon or a piping bag for a more elegant presentation.
  • Arrange the shrimp on top of the eggs and sprinkle with a little more chopped chives. Optionally, garnish with lemon slices to squeeze over the shrimp. Serve with rye bread.
